Children’s Activities September 30, 2012

1st Session – Grades 2 & 3

Time: 8:30am – 10:00am

I let Sarah lead the prayer “Our Father” as our opening prayer.

 

We have a visitor today. His name is Yusako. He introduced himself to the children after each one of them introduced themselves to him.

 

My lesson for today is about comprehension. I opened the lesson in the computer for English. I let them identify the animals and they will tell me the name and spell the name. I taught them also how to pronounce it correctly. I see from their eyes that they are willing to learn. Then we sing the Alphabet song. I was shocked that they don’t know the song very well specially the end part. So I teach them one by one,  A,B,C,D,E,F<G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P. Q,R,S,T,U & V,W,X, Y & Z, Now I know my ABC, boys and girls come sing with me. One by one I let them sing in front of me so that I will know if they really listened. I opened again the flash cards in the laptop. From A to Z we read the words and I ask them if they understand the work. If not I explained to them what’s the meaning. Afterwards, I gave them a test. It is a crossword puzzle. There are five pictures of sea animals. The first letter of the sea animals.They have to identify and  put the names on the box provided. The sea animals names are Whale, Starfish, Shark, Seahorse and Dolphin. Sarah finished first and I gave her 5 points, next was Hanna, I gave her 4 points, next was Gabriel, I gave him 3 points, they Eric, I gave him 2 points and last is Deaniel with 1 point. I told Daniel to catch up. I also gave them a picture and let them color the toothbrush they can see. Sarah finished first. She counted 20 toothbrushes. Hanna is the second to submit her paper and counted 20 toothbrushes. Gabriel was the third to submit and he counted 21 toothbrushes. Next is Eric who counted 20 toothbrushes. Last was Daniel who counted 21 toothbrushes. They really have keen eyesight.   

 

They were all hungry after the test. I served them snacks, Pancit Canton and Milo. I already reminded them to bring their chopsticks because we are serving ramen. Only Gabriel has no chopsticks. I provided him from the donated  chopsticks from Japanese student volunteers. They love the taste. I brought the brand that they are not familiar but taste so delicious. They drank their milo all the way down. They requested that every Sunday they want Milo as their drink.  Afterwards, they all washed their plates and tumblers and brushed their teeth.

 

I thanked C.G and  J. B who helped me prepare the Pancit canton and Milo.

 

At 10:00 am, Hanna lead the closing prayer “Angel of God”.

 

 

2nd  Session – Grades 4 to 6

Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm

(Rachel and Fortune are absent today because they joined the Girl Scout Camping in their school. Their mothers informed me already.

We started at exactly 10:30am. Our opening prayer was “Give Thanks” which Dorothy is the leader. For our exercise, we performed the “Follow the Leader” which James is the leader.

 

We have a visitor today. He is Yusako. He introduced himself after the children one by one introduced themselves to him. They asked him about his talent. They were sad because his talent is playing soccer and he can’t perform a sample for them.

 

I asked the children what the topics are all about last week, and they chorused Industrious, Obedience, Love for our Country and Orderliness. I asked them if they are ready to take a test, and they all shouted “Yes”. They were all excited if it’s a Math test or Spelling test. I chose the spelling test. But before the test, I prepared a crossword puzzle for them. I want to test them about following instruction and comprehension. The instruction is, choose words from the box that will fill the spaces. Then answer the riddle by writing the boxed letters in the box at the center on the line. The words in the box are every, help, better, town, any, please, many, thank and hello. There are 4 letters given in the puzzle name j, l, u and t. Then after reading to them the instructions, Donna was the first to pass but later I returned her paper because the word in the middle didn’t answer the riddle, “What’s in the middle of a jellyfish?” Charles was the first to find out and solved the correct answer and positions of the words. He got 10 points. I was surprised for the first time Charles was very good at puzzles. Nikky passed her paper last so she got the lowest score of 2 points. My grade system in this test is I ranked the test papers according to who’s first, second,  third and so forth to pass their test paper with correct answer will be given a score of 10, 9, 8, 7 and so forth. Next test, I gave them Spelling test but with a catch. I will say the word which are nouns and give the meaning and use it in a sentence and they will write the plural and with correct spelling. Again, Charles got a perfect score of 15 points. Hurray for Charkes! He’s got talent! Ava got perfect score also. Nikky got zero! All her answers have wrong spelling. She doesn’t know the plural form of the nouns. I am sad about Nikky because I had high expectations for her. I told her to read again her lessons about pluralization. I learned a lot from the children when giving them tests.

 

E.J was the only one helping me today. So we got busy cooking their Pancit canton (Ramen) and preparing Milo. Then we were done, we served them to the children. They all love their ice cold Milo and pancit canton. Almost all the children had their 2^nd round of Milo drink and they asked for more pancit canton but only half of the bowl was left and I distributed to them who needs the most. They were all smiling after they ate their snacks. Then they washed their plates and tumblers and brushed their teeth.

 

 

At 12:15pm, we formed a big circle and the children sang  “Our Father” as our closing prayer.

Some of the children stayed to watch the films in the laptop namely Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea, Totoro, and Laputa the Flying Island. They asked permission from Mr. Kazu if they can watch in the room without disturbing the High School scholars with their afternoon session. Mr. Kazu granted them. The children went home at 3:00 pm.

 











 

3rd  Session – High School

Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm

 

Attendance: Ashley, Kayla, Andrew and chloe

 

Ashley arrived very early. She arrived at 12:00nn.  She joined the children watching “Ponyo”.

 

I let Kayla lead the opening prayer “Our Father”.

 

They introduced themselves one by one to Yusako, our visitor. In return, Yusako introduced himself to the children.

 

I asked the children what are the topics last week and we reviewed them one by one. Afterwards, I gave them a test about pluralization same with the 10:30 am group but I added 5 nouns that are difficult. Chloe got 19 points, Andrew got 16, Kayla got 18, and Ashley got 17 points. Then I gave them a game to play while I prepare their snacks. 

 

The game is called “Connect”. I let Chloe draw a whole series of dots on a sheet of paper. See the grid below;

 

Each player takes turn drawing a line between two dots. The lines are horizontal or vertical (not diagonal). The game starts slowly with lots of unconnected dots, but as the game goes on, you get nearer and nearer to making squares. If a player makes a complete square, they get to mark the square with their initials in the center of it, and they get another turn at drawing a line. The player with the most squares when all the dots are connected wins.

 

They didn’t finish the game because in every line they mark, they are very careful not to give a chance to anyone.

 

I served them their snacks and they asked for more Pancit Canton. I told them that I equally divided them to their bowls. They loved the taste, it’s very delicious!

 

It was Andrew’s turn to wash the plates and tumblers. They they all brushed their teeth.

 

At 3:00 pm, Kayla  lead the closing prayer. Then they all went home.

 

Mr. Kazu, Yusako and I  headed to Jame’s house in Villagonzalo 2. It was Mr. Kazu’s first time to visit James’s house. Their house is located in front of DPWH building (owned by the government) which got burned last Friday due to faulty. The fire was just contained in the compound. It didn’t scatter outside where many squatters are living. We stayed there for quite a while because it rained so hard. I was afraid that the river will overflow. Thank God just a little water came inside the toilet of Sapnay office.

                                                                     

 

 

Children’s Activities September 23, 2012

 

1st Session – Grades 2 & 3

Time: 8:30am – 10:00am

I let Eric lead the prayer “Angel of God” as our opening prayer.

 

We have no visitors today. We are back to our normal session.  Today.  My lessons will be about reading comprehension. I prepared 3 stories for them to read. First I taught them the proper way of reading. How the sentences are read with intonation so that the listeners will not get bored but excited to listen what the story is all about. First we read about the umbrella. After explaining to the children all about the umbrella, I let them answer the 3 question below the story. It is a select the correct letter of the answer. They can read again the story above to check if their answer is correct. This is a test to determine if they really understand the story. At this point, Mr. Kazu distributed 3  ballpens (2 black and 1 red) to all the children. They all thanked Mr. Kazu. Hanna gor perfect. Eric got 2 out of 3, Sarah and Gabriel got 1 point, Daniel got no score. Next story was about the birds. I let them read by themselves then let them answer 3 questions below the story. I read again the story and explain to them about the birds before I correct their papers. This time, Hanna and Sarah got perfect score, Eric got 1 point.  The last story was about Marshmallow, how it originated. Both Hanna and Sarah  got a perfect score of 3 and still Daniel got zero. I told Daniel to practice reading hard. No wonder he got low grades in school. I will talk to his mother about this discovery. The story and test by the way are for grades 2. Daniel is already grade 3. He should understand what he is reading at this stage.

 

They were all hungry after the tests. I served them snacks, donuts, cakes and some biscuits donated by Me and Asami. I served them juice also. They are looking for Milo and milk. It is so ironical when I served them Milo they requested to drink juice. Now I served them juice, they are looking for Milo or milk. Children are so confusing sometimes. Since they have lots of food they brought them home. They all washed their plates and tumblers and brushed their teeth.

 

I thanked C.G who helped me prepare the juice and doughnuts and cakes and dividing the cookies equally for their take out.

                                                             

 

2nd  Session – Grades 4 to 6

Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm

(James is absent. His mother called and texted me today that he cannot join because he has high fever.)

We started at exactly 10:30am. Our opening prayer was “My All in All” which Lily, Nikky and Ava are the leaders. For our exercise, we performed the “Chicken Dance”.

 

We are back to our normal session since we don’t have visitors today. We discussed Obedience, Orderliness, Love for our Country and Industrious. They took turns reading and afterwards explain what they have understand about the values they read.

 

I asked all the children if they are obedient. They all chorused, sometimes. They don’t like to obey the commands of their parents because they are playing or busy with something else. They sometimes obey and do the tasks given to them but with a heavy hearted. They pout and stump their feet to show that they don’t like the task.

 

We discussed also Orderliness. The girls love to arrange their things and fold their clothes and their siblings too but when their younger siblings disarrange them, they are disappointed and doesn’t like to do the arranging because they just got mad after seeing the pile of clothes are in clutter.

 

For the Love of our Country, everybody was telling their stories to the class how they clean their surroundings, see some leaking pipes seen on the streets and report them to the proper authorities. They also helped the clean surroundings by not throwing their garbage anywhere. They obey also the traffic rules and rules in the school. At this point, I check the fingernails of the children because this is related about being clean, neat and tidy when going to school. Many of them have clean fingernails. Aila had manicure and told her to wipe them out with a nail polish remover. Most of the children have dirty toenails. They forgot to brush them. I told them not only during Sundays that they got to be clean but to make it an everyday habit before going to school. They all agreed.

 

For industrious, I emphasized to them to do their household chores without being told to do so. They should help their parents clean their messy area and help them to be industrious  not lazy.

 

I then recap what we discussed today and the children chorused saying Obedience, Orderliness, Love for our Country and Industrious.

  

I let Mr. Kazu distribute his donations to the childrens, a set of ballpen. They were all happy and said finally they have new ballpens. We have lots of pencils in the office. They don’t use pencil at school unless they have Arts subject (drawing).

 

We serve them cakes and cookies that Me and Asami gave to the children and juice.

I thanked Helen who helped me prepare their snacks today.

 

At 12:25pm, we formed a big circle and the children sang  “Amahan Namo” as our closing prayer. .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3rd  Session – High School

Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm

 

Attendance: Ashley, Kayla, and Chloe

 

(Andrew is absent. Her mother called me that he is very busy working on his projects in school.)

 

Ashley arrived very early. She arrive at 12:30pm.  Then at 12:55pm, Kayla arrived. Since it was 1:00pm, we have to start the session. Before we started to read about Obedience, Chloe arrived, thank God.

 

We had a normal session because we had no visitors today. I let the 3 of them take turns in reading our topics namely Obedience, Orderliness, Love for our Country and Industrious.

Each of them after reading explains what she understands about the topic. They are very good because they all understand what they are reading and they give examples of situations that happens in their house.

 

I asked each of them what their household chores. Everyone was delighted to share to us their chores. Ashley keeps the pile of clothes neat but sometimes she is discourage because her mother and stepfather doesn’t mind at all the orderliness and cleanliness of the room. Her efforts are not appreciated. But it is still okay for her. Kayla helps her mother only when she is told to do so. Chloe washes all the clothes of her family. She sometimes finish late because she has to buy water and detergent before she can start washing their clothes. She had a hard time because the clothes of her younger sisters are vey dirty and there’s not enough water and detergent for her to use.

 

Among the 3 ladies, it is Chloe who is very industrious and obedient. But she feels she is not loved by her parents. I assured her that her parents love her so much and they just don’t want her to end just like her elder sister who got married at an early age and have her life living on the streets with her children.

 

Ashley was complaining before we started our session that she have not eaten lunch yet. I served them snacks, doughnuts, cakes and biscuits given by Me and Asami. Mr. Kazu then distributed to the ladies his donation of ballpens. They were all glad to have them. They thanked Mr.Kazu.

It was Kayla’s turn to wash the plates and tumblers. They they all brushed their teeth. They ate the cakes and  biscuits and take out their doughnuts to share with their siblings and parents

 

At 2:50 pm, Kayla  lead the closing prayer. Then we all went home.   

 

 

Children’s Activities September 16, 2012

1st Session – Grades 2 & 3

Time: 8:30am – 10:00am

I let Hanna lead the prayer “Our Father” as our opening prayer.

 

We have 3 Japanese student volunteers today. They are Yuri, Home and Rin. We have 2 new Japanese visitors from ESL school. They are Sauri and Migomi. Sauri speaks English well. The children was amazed and they understand what she said. After the children’s morning greetings to us and the visitors, I let the children introduce themselves. Each and everyone took turns in telling something about themselves. Then the guests introduce themselves. Also Lou is back and have a special announcement to the children. She explained to the children how important  the meals we eat everyday. Eating meals give us energy and power. She also warned the children that eating too much junk foods is not good. They should eat a balance diet. They should eat meat, fish, vegetables, bread and fruits. Today she will be cooking banana pancake with chocolate syrup.

 

The Japanese student volunteers review the song and dance they learned last Sunday. They sang and danced also “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”. They also taught the children some Japanese words for hello, goodbye, help me, friend, thank you, you’re welcome and what is your name. They had fun learning some words.  For their activity, they are coloring the angry bird. Eric has the most angry bird and Hanna has the most beautiful angry bird.  

 

It was snack time. We served pancake and Milo drink to the children. Lou cooked a big pancake. As big as their plate. Most of them weren’t able to eat the whole pancake because they were very full already. So they just have them take out, like they are eating from a restaurant. I gave them a plastic cellophane so that they can store their pancake. The children were then given a Japanese  toy drum made by Rin, Yuri and Home. He children were very happy to have a toy to take home and brag to their neighbors. A group picture was taken with their toy drums in their hands.

 

At 10:00am the children chorused in thanking Lou for the delicious and nutritious pancake she made for them. We then said our closing prayer “Angel of God”.

 

I thanked C.G and Ma. A. M who helped me prepare the Milo and helped Lou also while they learned how to cook banana pancakes.
 

 

2^nd  Session – Grades 4 to 6

We started at 10:30am. Our opening prayer was “Who am I” which Anna and Lily are the leaders. For our exercise, James  was the leader. The song “Insomnia” as his music, he turned it into an exercise. He learned this from his school in Bankal Elementary School. I admire him so much because he shares to his co-scholars what he learned from his school. We clapped our hands after the performance.

 

Our guests are Yuri, Rin, Home, Sauri, Migomi and Lou. After the children introduce themselves one by one, it was our visitors turn to introduce themselves.   Sauri and Migomi were very happy to see the children and they ask questions and they also answered them. Lou was the last to introduce herself. She knelt down in front of the children who were sitting down. She asked them why do we need meals? Of course they saw the word energy of the next page, so they chorused energy! Lou explained that eating meals give us power and energy. Children should eat a balanced diet. They should eat pork, fish, bread, fruits and vegetables. They should not eat too much junkfoods like potato chips, coke and others  because it can harm their body. And most specially, Lou said to always give thanks for the food we eat everyday.

 

 The Japanese student volunteers review the children what they learned last Sunday, specially the song and dance. They also taught them “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and taught them also Japanese words of hello, good bye,thank you, you’re welcome, help me, friend, and what is your name. At first, they read them then they fold the paper so that the children cannot see the Japanese words. They are asked, what is the Japanese word for the word they point at and the children will answer. It is sort of a test if the children understand. So they took turns in answering and they had fun. The children requested that they will dance the Fisherman dance and the volunteers were glad to dance with them.  Then they also danced the Maru Maru Mori Mori. After the exercises, the children were all thirsty. They went to the kitchen and drank water.

 

They were given an activity. The toy Japanese drum made of small paper plates with chopsticks as their stick to hold on, they are to draw angry bird, or sponge Bob or Jollibee. So everyone was busy. Afterwards, they have coloring activity. They were given a picture of angry bird and jolibee that they will color. Everybody got so busy and at exactly 12:00 noon, I let them pass their colored angry bird and jolibee with Rin, Yuri and Home’s signature on it. I will post them on our kid’s corner.

 

Afterwards, because it is 12:00 noon already, Lou was ready to serve her banana pancakes. Each children were given 2 big pancakes wrapped in aluminum  foil to preserve the hot pancake. Lou distributed marshmallows donated by her friend and put chocolate syrup on top of the pancakes. We distributed also the Milo drink to everyone. Some children dipped their marshmallow on the Milo drink. They all said it’s delicious. All the children enjoyed their snacks and as usual, they saved the other pancake to share to their siblings. Everyone was so “busog”. Lou also served pancakes to all the guests and I served them bottled water.

 

At 12:40pm, we formed a big circle and the children sang a thank you song to Lou, entitled “Thanks to You” afterwards we sang “Our Father” as our closing prayer. Before they went home, a group picture was taken.

 

I thanked M.E and R.M for helping Lou in preparing and cooking the pancakes and preparing the Milo drink.                                                       

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3rd  Session – High School

Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm

 

Attendance: Kayla, Andrew

 

Ashley was 40 minutes late because she has no money to pay the jeepney. She was asking form her relatives in Tac an, Talamban for her fare.

 

(Chloe gave an excuse letter last Saturday because she cannot attend because she has lots of projects to be submitted on Monday and it is a group work, so she has to attend.)

 

(Kayla sent an excuse letter through Lily. She cannot attend the class because she has an important thing to do for her science class.)

 

We started at 1:15pm. We waited a little while because it was only Kayla who was there. Then Arvin came in and we started to pray the opening prayer. This time, only Yuri, Rin, Home and Lou were left. Sauri and Migomi had to go back to their school.  Kate and Arvin introduced themselves respectively. Then the Japanese student volunteers introduced themselves. Lou introduced herself and told them that she is preparing their snacks. She told them that we have to eat meals to get energy and power. They should not eat junkfoods too much because it is harmful to the body. They should eat a balance diet. They should eat pork, fish, bread, fruits and vegetables. And lastly she told them to give thanks for the food we eat.

 

They taught the 2 girls how to write their names in Japanese. Both are very eager to learn because they were absent last Sunday. Ashley arrived later and catch up with them. They all made an origami where they write their names in Japanese and decorated them with stickers. Home made them dog balloons where they are to choose the eyes to stick on them. Home made a sword balloon and she gave it to Andrew. Since it is 2:00pm already, they have to go to the orphanage. A group picture was taken. We serve their snacks which Lou prepared already and I gave them a pitcher of Milo. After saying farewell to all our volunteers, Lou and Mr. Kazu, they ate their snacks. It was Ashley’s turn to wash the plates and tumblers. They all brushed their teeth. They take out their other pancake as well to give to their siblings.

 

At 3:00pm, Andrew lead the closing prayer. Then we all went home.   

 

Children’s Activities September 9, 2012

1^st Session – Grades 2 & 3

Time: 8:30am – 10:00am

I let Sarah lead the prayer “Our Father” as our opening prayer.

 

We have 5 new Japanese student volunteers today. They are Yuri, Home, Techi, Aina and Rin. Me and Asami are also with them. They teach them how to deal with the children.

 

After the children’s morning greetings to us and the guests, I let the children introduce themselves. Each and everyone took turns in telling something about themselves. Then the guests introduce themselves.

 

The Japanese volunteers then taught the children a Japanese song. It was just a short song but they have difficulty in saying the lyrics. I suggested to them next time please write them in a Manila paper the song so that they can pronounce well the lyrics of the song. I told them for this class, they are not that eager to learn yet because they are still young. They then teach them a song and dance B-I-N-G-O. The children are already familiar with the song. They enjoyed this so much because it is an action song. Then they played a “Trip” game. The volunteers put origami papers on the floor forming a big circle. When the music starts, they walk in a circle stepping the papers. When the music stops, they sit down on the papers. If a player can’t find a paper to sit on, he is out of the game. During every  round, they pull out 1 piece of paper until only 2 players and 1 paper left. It was Sarah and Eric who were left with 1 paper on the floor. It was Eric who won the game. Hiro and Lou drop by the office. Hiro gave 3 packs of biscuits but he just stayed outside. The children didn’t see him. Lou on the other hand was there because she has to use the toilet. She waited a little while because it was being cleaned because of the mud from the river which sipped in the rags that they put as stoppers on the bow. She then bid farewell to the children because they were heading to Talisay. They then teach the children to make a flying toy made of colored paper and a straw to put the wings on. They draw some design and they were all now excited by rubbing their two hands with the straw in between so that their toy will fly. 

 

Snacks were served then . They have milk and peanut butter sandwich. They finished their sandwich first and drank their milk all the way down leaving a white moustache above their mouth. They giggled after seeing each other having milk moustaches. They then wash their plates and tumblers and brushed their teeth. Afterwards, they performed a closing exercise, Maru Maru Mori Mori exercise. The volunteers joined them and they had fun. A group picture was taken afterwards.

 

At 10:00am, Eric  lead the closing prayer “Angel of God”.

 

I thanked C.G and Ma. A. M who helped me prepare the milk and peanut butter sandwich and also cleaned the messy toilet.

 

2^nd  Session – Grades 4 to 6

While the children are rehearsing the chicken dance exercise before we start, the Japanese student volunteers were eager to learn the dance. Then Mr. Kazu suggested that the children will perform their dance number that they presented to Ms. Eiko’s culmination. I gave Rachel’s letter to her.

 

At 10:30am, Fortune, Rachel and Lily lead the prayer. They sang and interpret the “You Are My All in All” song. James, Mike, Jack and Charles lead the exercise, “The  Chicken Dance”. Our Japanese student volunteers, Me, Asami, Yuri, Aina, Home, Rin and Techi also joined the exercise and they had fun. Next was the introduction of oneself. The Japanese student volunteers greeted the children. First was Techi, but pronounced as “Tech” she introduced herself and when asked what is her talent, she told the children drawing. I gave her a paper to draw because children were shouting “sample, sample”. While she was drawing, we proceed to the next volunteers. It was Home’s turn. The children pronounced “Home” as her name but she corrected them. It’s pronounced as Ho-me not home and the children giggled for their mistake. It was then the children’s turn to introduce themselves. They are all excited to hear from the children. When it was Lily’s turn, they asked her what is her talent. She said, singing. So she performed in front of them . She sang 12:51 and dedicated the song to all the volunteers. It was now James’s turn and when asked what was his talent, he showed a sample. He danced the “Call Me Maybe” song. The children including the volunteers followed the steps of James’s. They all clapped their hands of their performance. After the introduction, as requested the children danced the “Solo” dance number and Mr. Kazu joined them because he promised the children. All the volunteers also danced with the children. Next was the” Starship” dance number. The volunteers also danced with them. The volunteers and the children were all having fun. Now it was the volunteers turn to show off their talent. I remembered Me and Asami prepared a dance number, a fisherman’s dance number. All the children were amazed that all the volunteers were prepared and danced in front of them. They clapped their hands for their performance. I asked Mr. Kazu if this is a traditional dance in Japan. He said no but they all practice since they arrived here in Cebu. At this time, Techi was done with her drawing she draw a panda and wrote “It’s nice to meet you.” The children clapped their hands for their admiration to her art. Then the Japanese volunteers teach the children some games. First is the London Bridge game. 3 pairs of volunteers hold each others hands while the children walks in a circular motion and passes to all 3 pairs of volunteers with the volunteer’s hand put them up when they pass through. When the London Bridge song is finished, whoever is caught inside when they put their hands down is out of the game. Then they played Open the Basket, Close the Basket. Volunteers and children took turns in playing the game. They had so much fun.

 

Afterwards, because it is 12:00 noon already, they have their snacks, milk and peanut butter sandwich. I served bottledwater to the volunteers and gave them also peanut butter sandwich. Everybody ate their sandwiches. Maybe they are “gutom” because of the physical activities they teach the children. The children then washed their tumblers, and brushed their teeth. They then performed the Maru Maru Mori Mori exercise. They then gathered all the children to make a flying toy. All the children made their own flying toys. Afterwhich, it was 12:30 pm time to bid farewell to the children. We formed a big circle and squat on the floor singing :Our Father” as our closing prayer.

3^rd  Session – High School

Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm

 

Attendance: Chloe, Ashley

 

(Kayla sent an excuse letter through Lily. She cannot attend the class because she has an important thing to do for her science class.)

 

(Andrew is absent.) 

 

We started at 1:15pm. We waited a little while because it was only Chloe who was there. Thank God Ashley arrived so we started the session. Ashley lead the opening prayer.  Ashley was the first to introduce herself. She was asked about her talent. She sang “Danced with my Father”. They all clapped their hands after the persormance. Then it was Chloe’s turn. I have noticed that both girls are very confident already talking about their activities in school as part of their introduction. They celebrated the teacher’s day with a theme, “My teacher, my Hero”. Then the Japanese volunteers introduced themselves one by one. Ashley asked them when is their Kimono being worn. They told us, they wear their Kimono during new year. They all grab their cellphones and let the girls sees  their pictures wearing a kimono. I asked them if is it expensive? They all chorused, “Yes”. I told them that here in the Phils. We usually celebrate out debut when we reached 18 years old. But since mostly are poor, they can’t afford a debut party. Because a debutant should wear a gown and 18 young men will bring a rose and dance with the debutant. It symbolizes that the girl is now a lady and she is shown off by her parents to their friends that their little girl is now a lady.

 

They taught the 2 girls how to write their names in Japanese. Both are very eager to learn. It was Chloe who learned to write her name in Japanese first. I bragged to them that Chloe is an artist. I showed them Chloe’s work on the wall of Sapnay and they were amazed. I then let Chloe decorate her paper and she did a very beautiful job showing her talent as an artist. Ashley on the other hand has difficulty on writing the A in Japanese. She had to practice so many times. Afterwards, a group picture was taken. All the volunteers have to leave because they have to go to Talamban, to an orphanage. After saying farewell to all our volunteers, I served snacks to the children. They drank milk and ate their peanut butter sandwich. I also gave them the sandwiches I prepared for Kayla and Andrew. They told me they will give them to their siblings.

  

At 3:15pm,Chloe  lead the closing prayer. Then we all went home.
